The Grota String Orchestra project has been bringing the gift of making music to poor areas from the community of Grota do Surucucu in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, touching countless lives along the way. Learning an instrument has brought joy, self-esteem and even potential alternatives to life on the streets and the drug trade.  Many of the youths from the project have successfully gained university scholarships and the more advanced students in turn became instructors themselves, whilst the orchestra performs to the public to spread their message and raise awareness.
