On Tuesday, November 18, the 3rd annual reading contest for primary school children, organized by the Cayo Association of Principals of Primary School (CAPPS), took place at the George Price Centre for Peace and Development.

7 Finalists, who previously won their zone competition, were given only 15 minutes to study a story from the children's library and read it before a captive audience. The judges of the National Library Service then had the daunting task to select a winner. Top contestant was Naomi Cruz of Garden City Primary School (see photo right), who received her trophy together with Andre Guzman of Sacred Heart Primary School (second place) and Karen Escobar of Ontario Christian School (third place). Other finalists were Ellise Luna of Roaring Creek Nazarene Primary School; Noe Rivas of Santa Elena Primary School; Gwendolyn Galvez of Howard Smith Nazarene School and Gillian Portillo of Hidden Paradise Government School.

Congratulations to Naomi and all the other finalists! Kudos too to the schools, teachers, parents and CAPPS for promoting reading with such passion. We look forward to next year's contest!
