FROM APRIL 14 TO 25: POSTER SHOW - GREEN TECHNOLOGY
Since the dawn of the 20th century, coal and oil have powered the world. Yet, questions are being raised about the sustainability and potential environmental costs of carbon-based economies. News forms of energy generation are being reinvented or newly developed. Wind power, solar power and biomass –the conversion of vegetation and waste to fuel- could develop into major energy resources.
This poster show, courtesy of the American Embassy in Belize, offers an overview of the new “Green Technology”, in celebration of Earth Day 2008, which is observed worldwide on April 22, 2008.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23 AT 5.30 P.M. - DOCUMENTARY: A CRUDE AWAKENING
A Crude Awakening offers the rock-solid argument that the era of cheap oil is in the past. The intensively researched film drills deep into the uncomfortable realities of a world that is both addicted to fossil fuels and blissfully unaware of the looming "peak oil" crisis. Amidst this dark vision of the future, the film hints at a humbler way of life built around sustainability and alternative energy, providing a visually stunning and bold testament which provokes not just thought but action.
This movie is offered courtesy of the Natural Resource Department of the University of Belize, with special thanks to Nicole Wulff. Free entrance!
