Cancer Society’s Tea Party

The Belmopan Cancer Society will be turning the greens of the George Price Centre into a veritable tea house, as they are planning a tea-party fundraiser tomorrow, Thursday, March 29 from 4.00 to 7.00 p.m.

All are invited to join the tea-party in support of the Cancer Society’s efforts to establish, promote and further the awareness and treatment of all types of cancer in Belize, and to provide support to those affected and their families.

This year’s theme of the Belmopan Cancer Society reads

Cancer can be prevented and controlled.
Don’t be afraid,
Get the facts!

“We need you today, you might need us tomorrow

Thinking Skills and Problem Solving
An Inclusive Approach

The authors of this book, Belle Wallace, June Maker, Diana Cave and Simon Chandler have bravely faced the challenge of designing a framework for an inclusive approach aimed at teaching children to think effectively.  Discover and develop your students’ strengths across the multiple intelligences by improving their problem solving skills.  This book will:

  • tell teachers all they need to know about multiple intelligences and problem solving
  • provide a bank of problems that can be integrated into any lesson plan
  • help teachers to identify gifted and able pupils
  • guide schools on how to organize their curriculum using example curriculum plans.

The Senior Steppers of Belmopan are once again taking the stage in their 2nd Annual Variety show on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 5:00pm sharp.

This group of energetic seniors, ranging in age from 55 to 90 have prepared musical items, drama, poetry and even a few surprises for an evening of fun and entertainment.  The Senior Steps variety show highlights that age is just a number and that the older persons of Belmopan are still active and vibrant.

We are inviting the Belmopan community to come out and join us in support of our Seniors. Entrance is free but a donation box will be available for anyone who wants to support the Senior Steps Program.

For More Information Contact  Lindy Jeffery or Ix-Chel Poot at the National Council on Ageing 822-1546.

The George Price Centre for Peace and Development is hosting a series of workshops, equipping those that are interested in introducing Conflict Resolution to their workplace, community and youth groups with the necessary information and skills.

In previous workshops, we tackled subjects such as conflict and emotions, communication and problem solving.  In this third workshop we will look at effective ways in which we can get our message across, including ideas for activities and active participation, body language and voice projection.

The workshop will take place at the Centre on Tuesday, March 20 from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and is offered free of cost to all those who would like to become more involved in the Centre’s Conflict Resolution Programme.  For more information and registration, call Elsie at 822-1054 or e-mail at info@gpcbelize.com

Giving – How each of us can change the world
By Bill Clinton

Here, from Bill Clinton, is a call to action. Giving is an inspiring look at how each of us can change the world. First, it reveals the extraordinary and innovative efforts now being made by companies and organizations—and by individuals—to solve problems and save lives both “down the street and around the world.” Then it urges us to seek out what each of us, “regardless of income, available time, age, and skills,” can do to help, to give people a chance to live out their dreams.

Bill Clinton shares his own experiences and those of other givers, representing a global flood tide of nongovernmental, nonprofit activity. These remarkable stories demonstrate that gifts of time, skills, things, and ideas are as important and effective as contributions of money. From Bill and Melinda Gates to a six-year-old California girl named McKenzie Steiner, who organized and supervised drives to clean up the beach in her community, Clinton introduces us to both well-known and unknown heroes of giving.
