Book of the Week: Seeking Peace

Seeking Peace
By Johann Christoph Arnold

Everyone’s seeking peace, but few seem to find it. Why? Arnold says most people are looking in the wrong direction.

For anyone sick of the spiritual soup filling so many bookstore shelves these days, Seeking Peace is sure to satisfy a deep hunger. Arnold offers no easy solutions, but also no unrealistic promises. He spells out what peace demands. “There is a peace greater than self-fulfillment,” he writes. But you won’t find it if you go looking for it. It is waiting for everyone ready to sacrifice the search for individual peace, everyone ready to “die to self.”

On October 21, the Association for Conflict Resolution celebrates Conflict Resolution Day. The aim for that day is to promote awareness of peaceful means of resolving conflict and to promote the use of conflict resolution in schools, families, businesses, communities, governments and the legal system.

In celebration of the day, Conflict Resolution Education has put together a fun and educational set of online games with conflict resolution content that can be enjoyed by the entire family!

Since the start of the new school year our Peace Corps volunteer, Cisco Fernandez, has initiated a series of Conflict Management workshops at St. Martin Government School and Kuxlin Ha Primary School. Other schools, including Belmopan Comprehensive, are gearing up to start the series as well. The aim of the programme is for teachers and students to gain a better understanding of conflict and to learn of ways to better manage conflict, embracing it as a positive opportunity for growth.

Last week, Cisco and Elsie also had the awesome opportunity to address the Boys and Girls Conference at the Ecumenical High School in Dangriga!
